A 28 Months Later Threequel Could Be Happening

Since the success of 28 Days Later and its sequel 28 Weeks Later, there has been speculation of what happens when weeks turn to months. “We’ve just started talking about it seriously,†28 Days screenwriter Alex Garland told IGN. “We’ve got an idea. Danny [Boyle] and [producer] Andrew [Macdonald] and I have been having quite serious conversations about it, so it is a possibility. It’s complicated. There’s a whole bunch of reasons why it’s complicated, which are boring so I won’t go into, but there’s a possibility.†The potential third film — in the saga about an incurable rage virus that decimates Great Britain — would most likely be called 28 Months Later because anything else would admittedly be both an insult and an absurd missed opportunity. While he didn’t reveal anything else about the threequel’s loose plans, Garland added that he’d probably end up executive-producing the as-of-now up-in-the-air project. (And that’s great; whatever you have to do to make sure this happens, Garland, so long as this doesn’t become another unending Saw-type series.)
