Because he needs more time to appear in basically everything else, Tom Hardy has dropped out of the upcoming Suicide Squad movie. Hardy was going to play Rick Flag, a former military man forced to work alongside the titular team of supervillains, and after his departure, The Wrap reports the role may be taken up by Jake Gyllenhaal, who starred in Squad director David Ayer’s End of Watch. This would be the first comic-book role for Gyllenhaal, who narrowly missed out on replacing Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man 2 and found out too late that Nightcrawler was not about what he thought it was about.
