The National Geographic Channel is doubling down on educational/comedic shows. Not long after announcing a docu-comedy series from Silicon Valley co-creators John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky, the network announced that they’ve also picked up a weekly late night talk show based on astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson’s hit podcast StarTalk Radio. Tyson will host the show, which will combine “science and popular culture and feature interviews with celebrities, comedians and scientists.†The format of the late night version of Star Talk is still being developed, but at TCA Tyson said that “he does intend to give Bill Nye a platform for a minute-long rant in each show, much as Andy Rooney had for many years on CBS’ 60 Minutes.†The show will tape in front of a live studio audience in New York at the American Museum of Natural History’s Hayden Planetarium and is slated to debut in April.
