As Saturday Night Live celebrates its star-studded 40th anniversary this evening, we’ve been asking celebrities to relive their favorite characters and sketches from the past four decades. But no recollections from the show’s long history can stand up to the present-day reminders that former cast members encounter every day. We caught up with SNL alum Rachel Dratch at the Girls season-four premiere and found out that even though she performed too many characters to count during her seven-year tenure, the one she can’t seem to get away from is Debbie Downer. Wah, wahhhhhh.

Admit it: How often do you hear people make Debbie Downer references?
A lot. A lot. But a lot of times I overhear it. Like, one time I was standing on a street corner, and this couple was there and I heard the girl be like, “I mean, I don’t want to be a Debbie Downer, but … †and I was so tempted to be like [waves enthusiastically]. But I didn’t. I didn’t say anything. I just crossed the street.

The best is when you guys would start laughing. I wouldn’t be sad to be associated with that.
The only problem is that I’m on Twitter, and anytime I say anything even remotely honest, I get called out as being a Debbie Downer for anything heartfelt. So I have to save my honest, negative emotions for off of Twitter. Although I’ve thought of starting a Debbie Downer Twitter [account] so I can just, like, put all of that onto there.

On behalf of your fans, Rachel, we hope you do.
