Enter the Supersaturated, Ultraglamorous World of Tina Barney’s Photographs
For decades, the artist Tina Barney, who grew up in the intesely affluent and private realms of the Upper East Side and Watch Hill, Rhode Island, has been capturing striking images of aging doyennes, the splendor and grace of the wealthiest families here and in Europe, the ultrarich — that is to say, her friends. The effect, perhaps especially for those who didn’t grow up in such a rarefied way, can be fascinatingly voyeuristic, and sleekly anthropological.
There’s a big retrospective of her works at Paul Kasmin Gallery, “Four Decades,†and it’s an immersion into this world of hers. The show opened May 7 and is up until June 20.
