If you had a pretty, shirtless French boy in your bed and he was begging you to stay in Paris with him forever, you might find his exotic entreaties hard to resist. And yet, Greta Gerwig manages the impossible in this exclusive clip from the acclaimed electronic-music drama Eden, gently rebuffing the advances of Paul (Félix de Givry), whose crush on this American expat comes as his career as a dance-music DJ begins to take off. The film is Paul’s story, and director Mia Hansen-Løve based the character on her brother Sven, himself a popular former DJ. That lends Eden (opening tomorrow, June 19) an intriguing level of verisimilitude, never more so than when two of Paul’s DJ friends, Thomas and Guy-Man, surge to supremacy as the masked faces behind Daft Punk. If you’re looking for a beautifully shot chronicle of the last two decades of the electronic-music scene, then Eden excels, but if you’re just looking to watch Greta Gerwig banter with a cute, puppy-eyed French DJ while they listen to records in bed, it’s got that going for it, too.
