
N.W.A haven’t been active since the early ’90s, but the overwhelming success of their biopic has renewed interest in the rap collective’s music: For the first time in the group’s nearly 30-year history, N.W.A has a Top 40 hit. “Straight Outta Compton,” from the group’s seminal 1988 debut album of the same name, has now charted on Billboard’s Hot 100 ranking for the first time, 27 years after the song’s original release. It’s currently sitting at No. 38, right between Luke Bryan and X Ambassadors, hilariously enough. Incidentally, their album Straight Outta Compton was the No. 4 best-selling album of the week — right behind Dr. Dre’s Compton — making it the highest that album has ever charted. Over on iTunes, “Straight Outta Compton,” Eazy-E’s “Boyz-n-the-Hood,” and Ice Cube’s N.W.A diss track “No Vaseline” have each made it to the Top 100 songs, while the remastered version of Straight Outta Compton is the No. 9 most popular album.
