FX’s updates from the TV Critics Association press tour are mostly what you might expect. The network has officially ordered Pamela Adlon and Louis C.K.’s show Better Things, which stars Adlon as Sam, a working mom who tries to balance acting with raising three kids. The pilot, co-written by the duo and directed by C.K., promises to be “gnarly,†“bloody,†and “funny.†The network also picked up a third season of Guillermo del Toro’s The Strain and announced premiere dates for three of its biggest shows: Kurt Sutter’s new series The Bastard Executioner will premiere September 15, American Horror Story: Hotel will premiere October 7, and the second installment of Fargo will premiere October 12.
Not to be left out, FXX also has some announcements. It will gain two animated comedies: Archer is moving over to the channel for its seventh season, where it will be paired with Cassius and Clay, an animated series voiced by Kaitlin Olson and Lake Bell as two female bandits in “a futuristic, post-apocalyptic American South.†Susan Sarandon will be a series regular as Connie Mack, a brothel and saloon owner, and you’ll also hear the dulcet tones of J.B. Smoove and Jeffrey Tambor on the show.
