Tracee Ellis Ross Re-created Her Mom’s ‘Work That Body’ Video

Lest you forget that Tracee Ellis Ross is Diana Ross’s daughter, the former has re-created her mom’s fitness frenzy of a music video for “Work That Body,†off 1981’s Why Do Fools Fall in Love. The clip comes as a tribute from younger to elder Ross, as well as — obviously — an ode to female empowerment. Ross said she felt like this video tapped into a special kind of joy about the female body. “Why does watching this woman dancing around in barely any clothes with her tush to the camera make me feel joyful and empowered when the same kind of image in most music videos today doesn’t give me that feeling?†she writes on her website. “[My mom] didn’t seem to be presenting her ass or saying look at all the ways I can make myself look appealing to YOU. She seems to be saying, ‘this is ME feeling good and I am strong and sexy and joyful in ME’!â€

And here’s the OG video. Yes, the resemblance is uncanny:

From one queen to another: You better work!
