HBO has finally given the green light to Issa Rae (The Mis-Adventures of Awkward Black Girl) and her Insecure comedy, according to reports. The 30-minute idea, created by her and Larry Wilmore, received a series order after enjoying a couple years of development and a successful pilot helmed by Melina Matsoukas. The show now examines “the friendship of two modern-day African-American women and their uncomfortable experiences and racy tribulations,†and will star Rae alongside Yvonne Orji. Jay Ellis and Lisa Joyce bolster the cast for the show, which looks like it will also tackle the workplace (and lack thereof). THR notes that Prentice Penny will serve as showrunner and will EP with Michael Rotenberg, Dave Becky, Jonathan Berry, and Rae. (Wilmore will lend a hand as a consultant.) Maybe it took a bit, but we’re glad to see the idea of an Issa Rae Era of TV Domination potentially gaining traction again. (Score.)
