Like many thing about Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the specifics on Andy Serkis’s character are currently shrouded in mystery. All we have is his name (Supreme Leader Snoke) and his game (being evil). Now, as part of their Star Wars preview, EW finally sat down with Serkis and got the veteran motion-cap artist to spill the beans on the CGI villain. First, there’s the matter of his size, which makes him sound a little bit like a giraffe, or maybe a brachiosaurus: “The scale of him, for instance, is one reason [he had to be CGI]. He is large. He appears tall.†And his face, oh lord, his face: “He has a very distinctive, idiosyncratic bone structure and facial structure … you couldn’t have gotten there with prosthetics. It’s too extreme.†But don’t think just because Snoke is very tall and has some weird-ass bones on his face, he doesn’t still have feelings. “Supreme Leader Snoke is quite an enigmatic character,†Serkis says, “and strangely vulnerable at the same time as being quite powerful.†Sounds like a baby! We’re calling it now: Supreme Leader Snoke is a tall, Klingon, giraffe-y infant. Dang, J.J. Abrams, that’s terrifying.
