Universal’s live-action adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale The Little Mermaid — which will have no relation to the Disney animated musical version — has its Little Mermaid. (Disney also came up with the name Ariel, so who knows what her name will be!) The film, which previously was to be directed by Sofia Coppola, is now without a director after Coppola exited due to the old “creative differences†song and dance. Variety reports that Coppola actually left the film because she didn’t want to work with Mortez. Maybe she’s terrified that Moretz is actually Hit-Girl?
The film, which has no release date, will be penned by Love Actually screenwriter Richard Curtis.
