David Fincher and Charlize Theron are joining forces to produce a new Netflix series Mindhunter. It’s based on the 1996 book Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit by John Douglas and Mark Olshanker, about Douglas’s 25-year career tracking down serial killers. Fincher also has a history of tracking down serial killers, or at least directing actors who are playing characters who are tracking down serial killers. (We’re talking about SE7EN. Oh, and Zodiac. And a few others.) And Charlize has had her brush with serial killers by playing one in Monster, so we can be sure the duo is well-suited to their new series. Mindhunter launches as Netflix continues in its aggressive goal to launch a new series every week. God help us, there’s too much TV, and we love it.
