Larry Wilmore’s ‘Goodnight Slavery’ Teaches Kids What Their Textbooks Leave Out

The Texas Board of Education has done a lot to whitewash school textbooks in recent years – not only are references to the KKK and Jim Crow omitted, but slavery is downplayed (the term has gone from the slave trade to the “Atlantic triangular trade�) and the books are no longer allowed to be fact checked by academics. Since these textbooks are used in schools across the country, The Nightly Show’s Larry Wilmore recently visited a class of elementary school kids to teach them everything they’ll never learn in class with a new and improved version of Goodnight Moon called Goodnight Slavery: “It’s funny because it’s sad.�
