The Texas Board of Education has done a lot to whitewash school textbooks in recent years – not only are references to the KKK and Jim Crow omitted, but slavery is downplayed (the term has gone from the slave trade to the “Atlantic triangular trade”) and the books are no longer allowed to be fact checked by academics. Since these textbooks are used in schools across the country, The Nightly Show’s Larry Wilmore recently visited a class of elementary school kids to teach them everything they’ll never learn in class with a new and improved version of Goodnight Moon called Goodnight Slavery: “It’s funny because it’s sad.”
