Adult Swim has just announced that Samurai Jack will be back in 2016 on Toonami (Adult Swim’s late-night block), and creator Genndy Tartakovsky will return with it. A Cartoon Network standout, the acclaimed cartoon ran for 52 episodes from 2001 to 2004. Samurai Jack tells the story of a samurai named Jack (saw that one coming) on a quest to travel back in time to defeat the tyrannical demon Aku. Was taking Samurai Jack off the air for over a decade a simple publicity stunt to make the audience feel just as displaced in time as the character? Probably not. But no matter what, we’re excited for the return.
