Mars: It’s not just for Matt Damon anymore. Variety reports that Spike has given a straight-to-series order for Red Mars, its adaptation of Kim Stanley Robinson’s groundbreaking sci-fi novels. The trilogy, comprised of Red Mars and its sequels Green Mars and Blue Mars, follows a group of astronauts as they attempt to science the shit out of the planet to make it livable for humanity. Robinson will reportedly work as an adviser for the series, which will be executive-produced by Sense8’s J. Michael Straczynski and Game of Thrones’ Vince Gerardis. The network promised Red Mars would tell the story of “a group of strangers must find a way to live together and survive under the most daunting conditions mankind has ever faced†— someone call the Robinsons, because this thing is Lost in space.
