Have you heard of this movie called Star Wars: The Force Awakens? We’ve written about it a few times. It’s very popular and doing quite well at the box office so far. A lot of people have seen it, including John Boyega. In fact, so many people have seen it that it’s now the first movie ever to make $100 million in a single day. The $120.5 million opening (which misleadingly includes Thursday “previews”) obliterates the previous record of $91 million, held by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2. J.J. Abrams’s film will also break Jurassic World’s $208.8 million opening weekend record (obviously). Here’s a list of records the film has already broken, with many more to come:
Largest Thursday Previews (which began screening at 7 p.m.): $57 million
Largest Friday, Opening Day, Single Day: $120.5 million (estimated)
December Single Day: $120.5 million (estimated)
Widest December Opening: 4,134 theaters
December Opening Weekend: $120.5 million … and counting
Fastest to $100 Million: 1 Day
