Which hip celebrities get the honor of trying to make Rooney Mara laugh at the Film Independent Spirit Awards this year? Kate McKinnon and Kumail Nanjiani, who were announced as hosts of the 31st annual celebration of indie and indie-ish films on Thursday. (You can see all of this year’s nominees here.) As usual, the 2016 Independent Spirit Awards will take place the night before the Oscars, February 27, in a beachside tent in Santa Monica. Last year’s ceremony opened with a single-take Birdman spoof, which means that if tradition holds, McKinnon and Nanjani are going to have to do some terrible things with a grizzly bear.
