IFC just added two new comedies to its slate. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network has picked up two half-hour comedies from Hank Azaria and Gould called Brockmire and Stan Against Evil. Created by and starring Hank Azaria, the Funny or Die-produced Brockmire centers on Jim Brockmire, “a beleaguered baseball announcer a la Vin Scully who has a meltdown on-air.†The series takes place ten years after the meltdown, which was the basis of a 2010 short Azaria made with Funny or Die short (see below). The IFC series will debut sometime early next year, and Undateable’s Joel Church-Cooper will write while Veep’s Tim Kirkby will direct.
In addition, IFC ordered a comedy-horror series written and executive produced by Dana Gould called Stan Against Evil, which will follow “a perpetually disgruntled former sheriff of a small New England town who was forced into retirement. Stan has trouble relinquishing his authority to Evie, the tough and beautiful new sheriff in town, but they form an unlikely alliance when both begin to realize things are not quite right. Together, they valiantly fight a plague of unleashed demons that have been haunting the town, which just happens to be built on the site of a massive 17th century witch burning.†The show will debut this fall.
