NBC just added a round of new comedy pilots, including two multi-cam projects starring standup comedians. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network has picked up an untitled comedy produced by Bill Lawrence and written by Undateable’s Adam Sztykiel. Starring standup Vladimir Caamano, the series will center on “the son of Dominican immigrants, who wants to carve his own path in live that winds up proving difficult as his father has no desire to change their extremely co-dependent relationship.†Also ordered to pilot is the Greg Garcia-produced Sebastian starring standup Sebastian Maniscalco and written by The Millers’ Austen Earl, which will follow Sebastian “and his old-school values — instilled by his opinionated Italian father — being put to the test by his new wife, her family and the absurdities of the modern world.â€
In addition to Lawrence and Garcia’s pilots, NBC also ordered a game show/multi-cam comedy hybrid called Crunch Time from Betsy Thomas (Whitney, Guys With Kids), which “intercuts between a real game show and the scripted workplace that centers on an up-and-coming producer trying to wrangle the volatile host.†David Janollari will co-executive produce alongside Thomas.
