Taylor Swift won Album of the Year at the Grammys for 1989. While it prevented a Kendrick Lamar sweep, it did give us the shadiest moment of an overall sleepy night when Taylor said, “There are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success, take credit for your accomplishments, or your fame.†She is, of course, referring to her best frenemy, Kanye West, who dropped the lyric, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that bitch famous†in his track “Famous.†Taylor is not having it.
Here’s her full speech:
I want to thank the fans for the last ten years and the Recording Academy for giving us this unbelievable honor. I want to thank all of my collaborators that you see on this stage. Mostly, I want to thank my co–executive producer, Max Martin, who has deserved to be up here for 25 years. And as the first woman to win Album of the Year at the Grammys twice, I want to say to all the young women out there, there are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success, take credit for your accomplishments, or your fame, but if you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, some day when you get where you’re going, you’ll look around and you will know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there, and that will be the greatest feeling in the world. Thank you for this moment.
Indeed. Thanks for the moment, Taylor.
Best New Artist nominee, Tori Kelly, however, was not here for any of it:
