Based on W’s “Casting Call†video, director Jonathan Demme made the right call casting Anthony Hopkins as the infamous cannibal-psychologist Hannibal Lecter. Kristen Wiig’s Lecter would have been a real goof troop. She just would not have brought the right level of icy gravitas to the role. Also, Kristen Wiig would have been a teenage girl at the time, which could have been scary but would have required a lot of exposition the movie didn’t need. Jane Fonda, on the other hand, would have torn that role apart with her canine teeth while listening to the Goldberg Variations. Now, that’s one inevitable remake we could all enjoy.
