Each month, several films and TV shows leave Netflix’s catalogue. We provide a list of titles leaving the platform so you can watch them all before they’re gone forever (or are just available on a different site). For more comprehensive coverage of the best titles available on Netflix and elsewhere, check out Vulture’s What to Stream Now hub, which is updated throughout the month.
For Oscar Historians: Wings (1927)
Back in 1929, Wings won the very first Academy Award for “Most Outstanding Production.” While that award eventually became known as Best Picture, there was also a prize, cut in later ceremonies, for “Most Artistic Picture,” which went to F.W. Murnau’s Sunrise. Wings — a big, romantic World War I action movie — is a prime example of the Academy’s taste for style. Leaving March 1.
To best terrify small children: Jumanji (1995)
A dark children’s book becomes an even darker movie in 1995’s tale of kids who start playing a magical jungle-themed board game. The effects are kitschy, and the plot pretty much nonsensical, but once you see it as a small child, you’ll never forget it, if only because it’s your introduction to body horror. Leaving March 1.
Literal psychodrama: Side Effects (2013)
Steven Soderbergh’s last film before (semi-)retiring to television, Side Effects is a twisty pharmaceutical thriller, which wraps itself around a typically enigmatic Rooney Mara, who plays an unstable woman given a new kind of drug by Jude Law. With the addition of Channing Tatum (as Mara’s husband) and Catherine Zeta-Jones (as a therapist), the film becomes a devilish four-ingredient cocktail, which goes down easy, but comes with a big kick. Leaving March 18.
If you’re looking for a rom-com: Gayby (2012)
There aren’t a lot of gay romantic comedies, and fewer that commit to being as truly sappy as Gayby (you can tell just from the title what kind of movie this is). A gay man (Matthew Wilkas) and his straight best friend (Jenn Harris) decide to have a baby together the old-fashioned way (by doing it) and the results spin out in a typically kooky fashion. As cozy as a comforter, Gayby doesn’t so much subvert rom-com clichés as give characters typically on the side of the story the chance to embrace them. Leaving March 28.
All the knowledge: Pretty much every sort of TED Talk
Everything from TEDTalks: Smart Laughs to TEDTalks: Brave Neuro World is leaving Netflix on March 15, which leaves you about two weeks to binge-watch all the knowledge that’s fit to be turned into an inspirational speech. Leaving March 15.
