A few months after planting seeds for Doctor Who heartbreak, Peter Capaldi now has semi-good news to make you feel more hopeful. The 12th Doctor told RadioTimes this week that the BBC asked him to stay on for at least series 11. “But it’s such a long time before I have to make that decision,†he added (because the only DW coming this year is a Christmas special, and he’s still doing series ten). “Steven’s been absolutely wonderful, so I love working with him. Chris is fantastic, and I think he’s a hugely talented guy.â€
The update comes shortly after news that Broadchurch’s Chris Chibnall would take over for Steven Moffat at the end of the 2017 installment — a move that prompted fans to wonder if Capaldi, like David Tennant before him, would leave with his showrunner. A cryptic Capaldi underlined that he doesn’t know where the show is headed, and that, ultimately, he hasn’t made up his mind about anything. “When I am forced to make that decision [to stay], I will make it,†he told BBC Radio, proving you should be hopeful (but with your guard still up, just in case).
