It turns out that PETA, an organization mostly famous for disliking things very loudly, also, from time to time, likes things. Weeks before the release of Disney’s live-action Jungle Book remake, the animal-rights organization has given its director John Favreau the Innovation in Film award, for “making the compassionate decision to use stunning cruelty-free CGI technology to bring to life a jungle full of realistic animals.†(The animals were played by stars like Idris Elba, Bill Murray, and Scarlett Johansson, using motion-capture technology.) And all it took was years of work and millions of dollars — the bare necessities!
