THR, citing anonymous sources, reported Tuesday that Warner Bros. is making big internal moves to bounce back from Batman v Superman’s fan and critical fallout. Namely, the studio has formed a new division dedicated to the development and production of all its comic-book-movie projects, per the trade, and has focused the roles of certain executives by putting them in charge of so-called genre streams. As far as the DC Entertainment properties are concerned, current VP of development and production Jon Berg and Geoff Johns, DC’s chief content officer who was instrumental in mapping the label’s TV successes, are set to co-run the “DC Films†brand. The L.A. Times noted that Berg and Johns were already part of an “unofficial brain trust†for the DC Comics franchise, but the move promotes the duo as clear leaders who will help oversee the DC cinematic universe similar, in some respects, to how Marvel and Disney rely on president Kevin Feige to maintain the vision for theirs. (THR underlined that Warner Bros. “still wants to remain a filmmaker-driven studio,†so the full scope of their duties is a bit foggy. But, as an indication of their future involvement, they have reportedly joined the upcoming Justice League movies as producers.) More personnel changes are said to be on the way.
