Sure, Netflix has Degrassi: Next Class, but its programming slate has been a little lacking in the “stories about the Great White North†department recently. Luckily, the company has teamed up with Canadian network CBC to produce a six-part mini-series take on Canadian author Margaret Atwood’s novel Alias Grace, a fictionalized account of Grace Marks, a 19th-century Canadian servant turned famed (at least in Canada) double murderess. Canadian writer and director Sarah Polley (Away From Her, Take This Waltz) is writing the project, while fellow Canadian writer and director Mary Harron (American Psycho) will direct. This is the second Margaret Atwood project to head to a streaming service, after the Elisabeth Moss–fronted Handmaid’s Tale went to Hulu. Now if we can only get a Canadian star to play Grace Marks: Rachel McAdams? Tatiana Maslany? An especially talented moose?
