Sacha Baron Cohen to Produce and Star in ‘Mandrake the Magician’

Sacha Baron Cohen is adapting a comic strip from 1934 for the big screen. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cohen will produce and star in a movie adaptation of the comic strip Mandrake the Magician, and Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder writer, Get Hard co-writer/director) has signed on to direct. There’s no script for the project yet, but like the comic strip, it will center on “an illusionist who had the power to hypnotize his foes at great speed. With his companion Lothar, an African strongman, he fought evildoers ranging from gangsters to masters of disguise to aliens. He also had a twin brother who used his power for evil instead of good.�
