A new Glass Menagerie is making its way to Broadway — wait, wasn’t there just a Glass Menagerie on Broadway? Or was that in the past, back when we were just Southern belles, gentlemen were kind in a way they’ve forgotten how to be, and the air smelled like summer jasmine? (No, it was only a few years ago.) Anyway, Sally Field will play Amanda Wingfield in the latest production. Joe Mantello (no, not Manganiello) will also star, while Finn Wittrock (American Horror Story) and Madison Ferris round out the cast. Sam Gold (Fun Home), who first directed Menagerie in Amsterdam, is leading up the production. The Broadway production will also import Gold’s Dutch design team and the revolutionary decision to perform Tennessee Williams in clogs.
