What an exciting week for Bay Area sporting events and rockin’ “Star-Spangled Bannersâ€! Following Carlos Santana’s rousing performance (of the national anthem, not “Smooth,†jeez!) at game two of the NBA finals earlier this week, two of Metallica’s members — James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett — were on hand to perform at game four of the Stanley Cup finals between the San Jose Sharks and the Pittsburgh Penguins last night. All four Metallica band members signed the guitars, which were then donated to the Sharks Foundation to be auctioned off. Hockey and heavy metal — what a harmonious combination.
