Anna Kendrick may be in six movies this year, but she’s ready to add a Marvel franchise as well: The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl. Always willing to display her acting range, Kendrick said in an interview with Net-a-Porter, “My brother sent me a Squirrel Girl comic because he thinks I should [play her]. I don’t know what Squirrel Girl does other than be half squirrel, but I could be half squirrel!† The internet, in turn responded, “Kick butts and eat nuts!†(If you’re confused, that’s Squirrel Girl’s motto).
Though the franchise is certainly a lesser-known Marvel title, the comic is a favorite among critics and has a rabid following. The story centers around a chubby college freshman who is studying computer science at NYU and harnesses the powers of squirrels and friendship to fight evil. Her sidekick is Tippty-Toe, an advice-giving squirrel, we’d like to see voiced by Kendrick’s Last Five Year’s co-star Jeremy Jordan, because in our version of this superhero blockbuster they not only eat nuts, but sing about them, too.
