The octogenarian actor will be portraying patriarch Joe Kennedy in the upcoming drama Chappaquiddick, where he will be joining the previously confirmed Kate Mara, Ed Helms, and Jason Clarke. The film will revolve around the infamous 1969 automobile accident where Ted Kennedy (Clarke) drove his vehicle off a one-way bridge in Chappaquiddick, Massachusetts, killing his companion Mary Jo Kopechne (Mara) by either drowning or suffocation after she was trapped underwater in the car. Kennedy swam away unharmed, but didn’t report the incident for nine hours, instead choosing to contact his cousin Joe Gargan (Helms) for assistance.
