Who you gonna call? More ticket-holders, ideally. Ghostbusters did not win the U.S. box office this weekend, debuting instead in the number-two position behind the animated The Secret Life of Pets. The Paul Feig-directed reboot generated $46 million from 3,962 theaters, while Pets maintained its top spot for the second week in a row, drawing in $50.6 million from 4,381 locations, for a total of $203.2 million. (For additional scale, Ghostbuster’s production budget was $144 million.) The Legend of Tarzan and Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates follow in third and fifth place, respectively. In other non-paranormal news, the fourth-place Finding Dory has officially become the top-grossing animated film of all time in North America, netting a current total of a very cool $445.5 million. High fin!
