Like a smoothie blended out of the wide but culturally consistent expanse of your Netflix history, your Arrested Development–Parks and Recreation–How I Met Your Mother–Orange Is the New Black–Togetherness–Parenthood crossover is here. The Intervention stars Akia Shawkat, Ben Schwartz, Cobie Smulders, Natasha Lyonne, Melanie Lynskey, Jason Ritter, Clea DuVall, and other people whose faces you like to watch doing stuff, especially kissing. There’s a lot of kissing in The Intervention’s first trailer, but there’s also a lot of sad. The movie, DuVall’s directorial debut, follows a bunch of friends who gather at a cabin to tell two of said pals’ plans to get a divorce, because that’s definitely a conversation you want to have while confined in a remote location. The Intervention, which hits theaters August 26, is not just a re-titled version of 2014’s friends-facing-tough-stuff-in-a-cabin flick About Alex, even despite all of the Jason Ritter. We checked.
