It seems absence really does make the heart grow fonder — especially after nine years. Matt Damon’s return to the Bourne franchise with Jason Bourne (we’ll never forget you, Jeremy Renner!) formidably topped the box office this weekend, with an estimated $60 million opening in the U.S. The minimum-word flick also performed extremely well oversees, netting an additional $50.1 million in 46 territories, rendering it the best opening day in the action-thriller franchise’s history. In the U.S., the comedy Bad Moms — which stars megababes Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, and Kathryn Hahn — finished strong in third place for its debut weekend, with $23.2 million, while Star Trek Beyond, although in respectable second place, dropped in ticket sales by 60 percent, to take in a total of $24 million. The Secret Life of Pets ($18.2 million), Lights Out ($10.75 million), and Ice Age: Collision Course ($10.45 million) round out the weekend box office in the fourth, fifth, and sixth place positions, respectively.
