Today, world-famous competitive eater Joey “Jaws†Chestnut, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, returned from his stinging 2015 defeat to Matt Stonie to win the annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Championship with a new record. Chestnut, who won eight consecutive championships before last summer’s upset, beat the competition’s record of 69 dogs in 10 minutes — which he set back in 2013 — by swallowing 70 all-American sausages. He left Coney Island’s 100-year old Nathan’s Famous not only holding the Mustard Yellow International Belt, but also carrying the respect of gluttons across the United States.
