If, one day, out of the blue, an egg-shaped alien spacecraft landed on Earth, of course, of course we would send five-time Oscar-nominee Amy Adams as the best representative of our species. This is the foolproof premise of Arrival, a prestige sci-fi film from Denis Villeneuve (Sicario), which stars Adams as master linguist Dr. Louise Banks and is based on Ted Chiang’s short story “Story of Your Life.†In the second trailer, Adams heads to the egg-ship to chat up some aliens with the help of government operatives Jeremy Renner and Forest Whitaker, and quickly starts to pick up their language. Meanwhile, other countries around the world race to figure out the big metal eggs themselves. We’ll hear from the aliens — including, we hope, their thoughts on Julie and Julia — when Arrival premieres on November 11.
