It’s a tense political climate out there, which is just a slightly restrained version of saying it is very, very bad. On Thursday’s Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon dared to imagine a world wherein we deal with our political differences with a little verve and some panache. If you’re going to compete (as people in presidential races are wont to do), do it through song, goddangit. So “Donald Trump†and Barbra Streisand gave “Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better†a whirl, updating the lyrics because no one expects the Donald to prize singing sweetly. Babs unsurprisingly smoked her rival, a slight salve to a reality in which a title like Annie Get Your Gun doesn’t really get across the gumption of its past … maybe we can do “I Whistle a Happy Tune†next?
