In case you’re currently forgetting your worries on a vacation by the shore, Warner Brothers is here to remind us all that the ocean is a terrifying place. Variety reports that the studio has cast Jessica McNamee (Sirens) opposite Jason Action-Movie Statham in the upcoming shark-thriller Meg. The movie is based on Steve Alten’s science-fiction novel MEG: A Novel of Deep Terror, which centers around a megalodon (the “Meg†of the title) — an extinct, 50-foot sharklike creature — that terrorizes a bunch of scientists working in an underwater observatory. At that point it’s up to a hero naval captain (Statham, obviously) to stop the sea beast, and this being a Statham movie, presumably tear the killer-fish apart with his bare hands. The book sparked five sequels, so expect some Jaws: The Revenge “This time it’s personalâ€â€“type follow-ups for Statham and his shark-clobbering fists.
