Being in the same band for over 30 years would be hard for some musicians, which might explain why video evidence emerged this past weekend of the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ bassist Flea scouting fresh talent, Koko. Though Koko, 45, is a bit old to break out as a rock star, there’s no denying her star quality — she’s already famous for being a gorilla who can use sign language and is a well-known cat-enthusiast. During a visit to meet Koko, Flea admired Koko’s strumming techniques before laying back and relaxing as Koko treated him to a live bass performance. “This is the greatest thing that could ever happen,†Flea said. After Koko tuned the bass for a bit, her keeper suggested that she might try to keep Flea’s instrument, but he was okay with that. He regularly hears the motto, “Give it away, give it away, give it away, now.â€
