One of the strangest projects currently in development in Hollywood keeps getting stranger, as the Jason Statham creature-feature Meg has just cast Masi Oka, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This movie is cut from the same cloth as Sharknado, as the primary conflict centers around a Carcharodon Megalodon, which is a 70-foot long, 40-ton ancestor of the great white shark. So the creature is vintage B-movie sci-fi, and the cast is becoming a who’s who of “Why?†with Oka and the recently added Ruby Rose. It’s also being directed by Jon Turteltaub, who brought us 3 Ninjas, Cool Runnings, and the soon-to-be trio of National Treasure movies. All of that would scan if Meg was going to be premiering on SyFy — and starring Ian Ziering instead of the Stath — but it’s not. It’s a big-budget collaboration between Warner Bros. and China’s Gravity Pictures, and that, paired with the fact that Meg will have Chinese mega-star Fan Bingbing billed alongside Statham, should translate into quality box office in the fastest-growing film market in the world. Now start your paper-chain countdown for Carcharodon Megalodon vs. Crocosaurus.
