Rick Famuyiwa’s DC movie The Flash just cast the father of its super-protagonist, and Variety is reporting that the shoes of Henry Allen will be filled by Billy Crudup. Story details are being kept tight by Warner Bros., as they are wont to do with their major DC properties, but Henry Allen has the potential to factor heavily into Flash’s storyline, depending on how Famuyiwa and company decide to play it. On the CW show — spoilers coming! — Barry Allen spends the entire first season trying to get his dad exonerated for the murder of his mother, Nora, who was actually killed by another metahuman. And then in season two, Harry makes it out of jail only to be taken out by the same villain who murdered his wife. Of course, it’s highly unlikely that the movie will ape that particular storyline and just re-create the fight for Henry’s freedom with Ezra Miller instead of Grant Gustin, but we do know the kind of trouble Flash’s dad gets into in some iterations of the comics and TV narrative arcs. Best of luck to you in surviving the first Flash movie, Billy Crudup!
