Ben Affleck has had a lot of success pulling double duty as director and star, and he’s hoping to replicate the magic of The Town and Argo for his latest film, Live by Night. Based on the book of the same name by Dennis Lehane, Live by Night chronicles the organized-crime exploits of various people and hats during the Prohibition era. Affleck plays Joe Coughlin, the son of a Boston police captain (we said this was a Ben Affleck movie, remember?), who graduates over the course of the movie from bootlegger to full-on notorious gangster — in Florida, of all places. The current Dark Knight also adapted the screenplay himself, and recruited Sienna Miller, Zoe Saldana, Elle Fanning, and Chris Cooper for supporting roles. Live by Night premieres in limited release on Christmas Day.
