Get your tickets soon, because The Color Purple is ending its run at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on January 8, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The show was first staged in 2013 at the Menier Chocolate Factory in London, and then the production transferred to New York and began performances last year, on November 10. The revival opened less than eight years after the musical’s first Broadway production had closed. The show was nominated for four Tony Awards, and won Best Musical Revival, as well as Lead Actress in a Musical for Cynthia Erivo. While grosses stand at $37 million, ticket sales haven’t been great, forcing producers to announce a closing date in January. The lead producers for The Color Purple include Scott Sanders, Roy Furman, Oprah Winfrey, and David Babani. If you haven’t had chance to see it, don’t worry. There will still be a North American tour launching in fall 2017.
