Considering it seemed like a small miracle that AMC’s little-watched critical darling Halt and Catch Fire even got a third season, the news released today of the show’s renewal came as a delightful shock to fans of the period drama. As Vulture has reported before, Halt and Catch Fire is in a particularly good position with the network since it is solely owned by AMC, which means the profits both on television and streaming, even if they’re small, are not shared with a separate studio, and the program, which follows the early rise of personal computers in the 1980s, lends prestige to the network. Meanwhile, watchers of the series can attest that it keeps getting better — it’s third season is the best it’s ever been. Creators and showrunners Christopher Cantwell and Christopher C. Rogers will stay to see the drama through its fourth and final ten-episode season. Halt and Catch Fire’s season-three finale airs tomorrow, October 11, at 9 p.m.
