Fear: mankind’s most primal emotion. Children: humanity’s natural storytellers. On The Tonight Show last night, Anna Kendrick and John Lithgow were mere conduits for the elemental, spooky terrors conjured by elementary-school kids. Only the innocence and forthrightness of a child’s authorial voice could lay bare our collective and most primeval fears, like, for example, having your underpants fall down, being very hungry and uncertain if mom is okay with taking you to McDonalds, and, of course, old people carrying around sentient man-eating severed heads.
