In the wake of the excellent news that Jake Gyllenhaal and Master of Sex’s Annaleigh Ashford will lead a production of Sunday in the Park With George, Zachary Levi, Phylicia Rashad, and a bevy of additional actors have signed on to give the musical some more of its color and light. Brooks Ashmanskas, Ruthie Ann Miles, Phillip Boykin, and Lisa Howard are among the Broadway heavyweights who have also been cast. Centered around the painting of Georges Seurat’s “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte,†Stephen Sondheim’s meditation on the excruciating pull of the creative process is coming to New York City Center as a benefit concert October 24–26. Levi’s been having quite the Broadway dalliance of late, having recently finished a run in She Loves Me. A round of congratulations goes out to these actors, who are as close to that beloved living art episode of Gilmore Girls as most of us will ever get.
