After years of appearing in Adult Swim series (Brett Gelman’s Dinner in America, Eagleheart), Brett Gelman has decided to leave the late-night comedy network. Yesterday the actor tweeted a link to a Splitsider story about Adult Swim’s senior executive vice-president Mike Lazzo, and wrote, “This is why I have severed ties.†In the article, Lazzo attempted to excuse the network’s lack of female show creators and writers to Reddit saying, “Women don’t tend to like conflict, comedy often comes from conflict, so that’s probably why we (or others) have so few female projects.â€

Though Lazzo tried to walk that comment back by admitting, “Lucille Ball and Gilda Rather to Amy Poehler and Amy Schumer prove my statement a load of generalized nonsense,†the fact remains that, according to BuzzFeed, only 1 in 34 credits at Adult Swim go to women. Further troubling in the saga of network, is their support and promotion of Million Dollar Extreme: World Peace, a favorite among the alt-right. When asked about Million Dollar Extreme’s fan-base on Twitter, Gelman responded, “I know this and I have stopped working with [Adult Swim]. Not to mention the misogyny of their policies.†Read the tweets below.
