A writer at SNL has been suspended over a tweet about Donald Trumpâs son Barron. According to The New York Times, writer Katie Rich has been suspended from the show due to a joke she tweeted on Friday mocking Trumpâs 10-year-old son, which received immediate backlash on the internet. The tweet in question â âBarron will be this countryâs first homeschool shooterâ â has since been deleted, and after temporarily deactivating her Twitter account, Rich returned to Twitter today to offer a public apology:
I sincerely apologize for the insensitive tweet. I deeply regret my actions & offensive words. It was inexcusable & Iâm so sorry.
â Katie Rich (@katiemaryrich) January 23, 2017
Richâs suspension is reportedly âindefinite,â so itâs possible that she will return to the show sometime later this season. As The New York Times notes, her name did not appear in the credits at the end of Aziz Ansariâs episode over the weekend. Rich has been a writer at SNL since December 2013. SNL has not publicly commented on Richâs suspension.
