‘SNL’ Suspends Writer Katie Rich for Tweeting a Joke About Donald Trump’s Son

A writer at SNL has been suspended over a tweet about Donald Trump’s son Barron. According to The New York Times, writer Katie Rich has been suspended from the show due to a joke she tweeted on Friday mocking Trump’s 10-year-old son, which received immediate backlash on the internet. The tweet in question – “Barron will be this country’s first homeschool shooter” – has since been deleted, and after temporarily deactivating her Twitter account, Rich returned to Twitter today to offer a public apology:

Rich’s suspension is reportedly “indefinite,” so it’s possible that she will return to the show sometime later this season. As The New York Times notes, her name did not appear in the credits at the end of Aziz Ansari’s episode over the weekend. Rich has been a writer at SNL since December 2013. SNL has not publicly commented on Rich’s suspension.
