(Spoilers for the end of Lego Batman follow.) Instead of fighting his usual group of Gotham City goons, Lego Batman battles a slew of villains — including those from other movie franchises. Voldemort, the Wicked Witch of the West, and Sauron all make appearances. But Lego Batman director Chris McKay said he wanted even more infamous villains in the final cut. “I would have had Kathy Bates from Misery, and [Sherlock Holmes bad guy] Moriarty, and at one point I pitched Daniel Day-Lewis’s character from Gangs of New York and David Carradine from Kill Bill,†McKay told Entertainment Weekly. “Also, at one point, we did put HAL [from 2001: A Space Odyssey] into the movie, but it was a tough read.†Because the sequence was already jam-packed with nemeses, McKay said he wanted limit the roster to the ones that would’ve resonated most with the kids. Apologies to Annie Wilkes and Bill Cutting.
